Puppies should be vaccinated at four different times. Puppy Vaccination # 1 (6-8 Weeks of Age) Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Parainfluenza, & Parvo combo shot. Puppy Vaccination # 2 (10-12 Weeks of Age) Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Parainfluenza, & Parvo Coronavirus combo shot. Puppies more than 10 lbs. & are considered to be an indoor/outdoor dog, should be vaccinated for Leptospira. We recommend at this phase puppies should be started on a heartworm preventative. For more information on heartworms, click here. Puppy Vaccination # 3 (14-16 Weeks of Age) Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Parainfluenza, & Parvo Coronavirus combo shot booster. Leptospira booster Bordetella We recommend Puppies that are active outdoors should be vaccinated for Lyme Disease. Puppy Vaccination # 4 (18-20 Weeks of Age) At this phase your puppy will be current on his or hers vaccinations for 1 year. Parvo, Bordetella, and 1 year Rabies. Lyme Disease booster Deworming Schedule Puppies have a high likelihood of being born with intestinal parasites (worms). You may see no signs of a parasite infestation. To properly maintain your puppies health, puppies should be dewormed on a regular basis. Please look at our deworming guidelines below. Beginning at 3 weeks, every 2 weeks until your puppy is 3 months old. At 3-6 months once every 4 weeks. Nail Trimming To keep you puppy paws healthy and get them used getting their nails trimmed as they get older, we recommend you touch and play with your puppy's paws. Trimming their nails on a regular basis makes the procedure less stressful and, it becomes a routine rather than a bad experience or a fearful situation. Puppy Mouths It is a good idea to open your puppy's mouth and look and touch their teeth and gums. By doing this your puppy gets familiar with this idea and it will be easier when you need to give medications or need to take something from your puppy's mouth. As your puppy gets older and matures he or she will be used to you opening their mouth and medicating is less likely to be a problem. Exercise It is important to provide exercise for your puppy. Puppies that are exercised for at least 30 minutes every day are generally better behaved. Puppies have a tremendous amount of energy. If they have no outlet for this energy they can develop obedience problems and excessive chewing. We recommend playing ball, going for a walk, and so on to provide exercise for your puppy. Your puppy will be thankful and happy. A happy puppy means a happy family. Teething Puppies teethe just like babies. Give your puppy toys and chewing treats to chew on. Providing your puppy with objects to chew on will detour them from chewing on personnel objects such furniture, shoes, etc. Puppies lose their all of their baby teeth from 4-6 months, however they will still continue to chew. You can purchase toys safe for puppies and dogs at pet stores and our Online Pharmacy. Spaying & Neutering AVH will spay (females) and neuter (males) kittens at 6 months old. If you do not plan on breeding your cat we recommend spaying and neutering. There are many reasons for doing so. Just to name a few: mixed mating, population control, to help prevent spraying, unwanted kittens, and there are health reasons as well.
